Living in Portland, there are always tons of activities to keep the whole family busy: the park, the fair, boating on the river, etc. However, sometimes you just want to shake it up a bit. Head to Sunriver Lodge for the weekend. It will knock your socks off.
Sunriver has recently gone through a serious renovation to bring it in line with current trends, and it is hot. With the hiring of Executive Chef Travis Taylor, the resort has completely revamped their menu which now features a mix of old classics like bacon wrapped meatloaf (a personal favorite) to lighter fare like crushed hazelnut crusted prawns.
All the old restaurants are gone, replaced with new ones with all new menus and aesthetics. Want to sit down for a quick drink after a day out on the links? Hit up the Twisted River Tavern. Want to sit down and have a dinner with the family? Try Carson’s next door. There are so many great options at the resort, and they’re all equally worth trying.
They haven’t just revamped their eateries. The resort has also invested in a brand new pool area, with a large pool and a really neat waterslide for the kids. They also have gazebos and a bar for the adults. Spending a day at their pool is something everyone will agree with.
If you’re looking for stuff to do away from the resort, there are plenty of options: kayak the Deschutes, fish, ride horseback, play paintball, and (my personal favorite) take a bike ride down to Benham Falls, a ride that will only take you about two hours for the 8-mile round trip. It’s quite stunning and is worth a look.
Their rooms have also received some TLC and are new, clean, and modern. They run the gamut from smaller one bedroom affairs to multi-floor condos (pictured). No matter what size room you end up staying in, they’ve all been refurbished with comfort and style in mind. The only real decision you have to make is what size room you want
No matter what you plan on doing this summer, give Sunriver a look. It’s definitely worth a weekend or two.
